The Film Series I Spy with My Little Eye: Antigypsyism in Film organized by the Protestant Academy Berlin and the Critical Film & Image Hub at the Research Centre on Antigypsyism (Heidelberg University) invites audiences to uncover the often hidden mechanisms through which films shape our perceptions of marginalized groups. By showcasing carefully selected films that critically address antigypsyism, viewers are encouraged to recognize and challenge the stereotypes often perpetuated by visual media.
The program features engaging keynote speeches and panel discussions with filmmakers and leading experts in antigypsyism research and media criticism. These sessions offer a unique opportunity to explore how subtle influences in film and media can shape our thinking—often without us even realizing it.
By consciously confronting antigypsyist portrayals and demystifying harmful narratives, the film series creates a space for open dialogue, thoughtful reflection, and the breaking down of prejudices. It aims to foster a culture of respect and contribute meaningfully to a more inclusive and diverse society.
